Abandon Normal Devises (AND) Festival - Castleton and Treak Cliff Cavern Thurs 21 - Sun 24 Sept 2017

AND Festival 2017 is a roving biennial of new cinema, digital culture and art, which will be based in the heart of the Peak District between the 21-24 September.

Across four days, the festival will see a host of site-specific installations, world premieres and performances take-over the village of Castleton.
From satellites to neutrino observatories, fossilisation to free-fall, this year’s programme will reveal the earth’s layers, from the drone’s eye view to the sunshine-deprived depths of subterranean bunkers, exploring themes of verticality and deep time in a series of provocative reflections on the earth. Digital Dark Ages - Treak Cliff Cavern // 21-24 September.

Tours running daily What if, in the far future, we cannot read the electronic documents, images and multimedia files, that proliferate our worlds today? Digital Dark Ages is an exhibition exploring the possibilities and challenges we face when preserving our digital lives for future generations. Set under the earth, in a world built around industry and knowledge-excavation, a selection of internationally recognised artists have been invited to think about how meaning is transferred and preserved in the long-term.

Experimenting with the ways in which we keep, share and store, as well as how the tools we use to record and capture are already changing us in the present day, Digital Dark Ages proposes a series of uncanny reflections on what is fast becoming the new normal. Guided tours through Treak Cliff Cavern lasting 45 minutes will run across the Festival with introductions to to each of the art installations and time to stop for questions.

Tickets are available on the AND Festival website at
